DevOps Engineer
Location: Hybrid - Devon (1-2 days/week)
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum

My client, a leading provider of secure and innovative IT services to the UK Defence and high-security sectors, is seeking a DevOps Engineer to join their expanding team based in Devon.

The Role
This is a hands-on, mid-level position ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, system optimisation, and collaboration. You'll be responsible for deploying and managing infrastructure as code across cloud and on-premise environments, ensuring systems are secure, scalable, and efficient. You'll also contribute to solution design, end-user support, and occasionally demonstrate solutions to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and scale system infrastructure in secure environments

  • Develop automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust DevOps practices

  • Provide occasional hands-on training and support to end users

  • Support system demonstrations and presentations

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience with AWS (certification preferred); Azure/GCP welcome

  • Proficient in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)

  • Hands-on with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/Jenkins)

  • Programming skills in Python, Django, JavaScript

  • Strong understanding of secure-by-design principles and compliance

  • System admin experience (Linux, Windows, macOS)

  • Solid networking knowledge (VPNs, DNS, VLANs, RTSP, VOIP)

Desirable Skills

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack)

  • Experience with API gateways, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL/PostGIS

  • Understanding of ITIL, ISO standards, and NCSC design patterns

  • VMWare administration, network diagramming, and technical documentation

  • Project management experience (PRINCE2 ideal)

Additional Information

  • Full-time, 40 hours/week

  • Hybrid working (1-2 days per week in Devon office, with some UK site travel)

  • Applicants must be sole UK nationals and able to obtain UK MOD Security Clearance. Existing clearance is advantageous.
