About the Role

We're looking for a skilled Embedded Engineer to join our Technical Engineering Team. This role offers the opportunity to work on the development of cutting-edge embedded systems, with responsibilities spanning both firmware and hardware design. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, contributing to real-world products from concept through to production handover.

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop robust embedded systems including firmware and hardware.
  • Create and test prototypes, validate designs, and troubleshoot at component and system levels.
  • Manage design release processes, including documentation, version control, and manufacturing support.
  • Collaborate with teams in the UK and South Africa to ensure technical alignment and project success.
  • Conduct lab testing and simulations to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Support field investigations or client visits as required.
  • Participate in MOD-compliant projects (Security Clearance eligibility is advantageous).
  • Contribute to R&D efforts including early-stage feasibility studies and technology evaluation.
  • Ensure hardware is optimised for manufacturability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

Your Skills & Experience

Education:

  • Degree (BEng/BTech) in Embedded Electronics, Electronic Engineering, or relevant work experience.(desirable)

Firmware:

  • Strong C/C++ skills for embedded systems.
  • Experience with microcontrollers (preferably ARM Cortex-M).
  • Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git).
  • Bonus: experience with Python or MATLAB.

Hardware:

  • Skilled in schematic capture and PCB layout (DipTrace preferred).
  • Understanding of both digital and analog circuit design.
  • Familiar with communication protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN).
  • Knowledge of EMC, thermal, and compliance considerations.
  • Experience with FPGA/CPLD is an advantage.

Engineering Processes:

  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and lab test equipment.
  • Familiar with FMEA, tolerance analysis, and structured design methodologies.
  • Strong documentation and system validation skills.
