About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering services provider, supporting clients across various industrial sectors. Based out of our Peterborough office with travel to UK sites, this role involves delivering end-to-end electrical design solutions from initial concept through to on-site commissioning.
You'll play a key role in developing electrical control systems for automation projects, working closely with internal teams and clients to deliver high-quality, safety-compliant designs that support efficiency, reliability, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Create detailed panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials
Produce LV distribution designs and perform cable calculations
Design electrical control schematics, PLC wiring diagrams, and I/O schedules
Develop instrument loop diagrams and cable block diagrams
Conduct machine safety circuit design and perform risk assessments to BS EN ISO 13849/60261
Prepare supporting technical documentation and installation manuals
Liaise with project and site teams to meet deadlines and quality standards
Lead on-site commissioning and safety validation activities
Skills & Experience Required
Understanding of machine safety systems and safety circuit design
Experience with PLC control wiring, instrumentation, and motor starter systems
Proficient in AutoCAD, Amtech, or similar design software
Solid knowledge of industrial automation and electrical design standards
Strong troubleshooting ability in large control panels and automated machinery
Qualifications
Electrical Engineering qualifications: HNC, BTEC, and/or NVQ Level 3
18th Edition Wiring Regulations (required)
Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical engineering, preferably in industrial environments such as manufacturing, food & beverage, or process industries
