Our client who provide expertise, tools and technical/growth solutions to enable local change-makers to focus on their passion and grow are hiring a Lead Developer due to a period of growth. You will pay a pivotal role in leading, build and shaping the Development team at a critical stage for our client. This role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of a growing platform, shape its technical direction, and lead a team that will make a lasting impact.
Reporting directly to the Director of Strategy and Technology (CTO), you'll be supported by an established PMO, UI/UX, and testing function. This is a chance to step into a leadership role where your technical expertise and mentorship will be central to the success of the team.
The Role
As Lead Full Stack Developer, you will:
- Take ownership of platform development - from estimates through delivery.
- Provide technical leadership and architecture guidance.
- Deliver complex hands-on development, including APIs, business logic, and integrations.
- Lead data integration, dashboards, and user management.
- Mentor and guide the team through code reviews, technical escalation, and best practices.
- Contribute to DevOps processes, including AWS and CI/CD pipelines.
- Manage third-party integrations and ensure seamless system connections.
Essential Skills & Experience
Core Technical Skills
- Ruby on Rails (API design, business logic, DB migrations, integrations)
- Frontend frameworks such as React, or Next.js (HTML, CSS, Rails views)
- TypeScript for robust front-end and full-stack development
- Databases: MySQL and PostgreSQL (schema design, optimisation, migrations)
- Database scaling, 3rd part integrations (Stripe, HMRC, Google, Go Cardless)
- Version control with Git (branching strategies, code reviews, CI/CD)
- DevOps: AWS, Kubernetes, Bitbucket Pipelines, deployments
Leadership Skills
- Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams
- Running code reviews, handling technical escalation, and setting standards
- Ability to balance hands-on delivery with architectural oversight
