Senior PHP Developer

Role Overview
An established organisation is seeking an experienced Senior PHP Developer to join its development function. This role suits a highly autonomous developer who is comfortable taking full ownership of complex systems, working closely with project and technical leadership while operating independently on day-to-day delivery.
You will be responsible for the design, development, enhancement, and optimisation of both existing PHP-based platforms and new systems, including APIs and database-driven solutions, hosted within dedicated server environments.
The role requires strong technical judgement, originality in system design, and a demonstrable ability to propose and implement robust, scalable solutions. A strong emphasis is placed on clean, efficient, and well-structured code, with ownership from initial design through to release.
You will be expected to self-test thoroughly, produce clear technical documentation, and ensure all work aligns with recognised standards and best practices, including secure coding principles, data protection requirements, and information security frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain PHP applications using Laravel
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs
- Work with MySQL and MongoDB, including schema design, optimisation, and performance tuning
- Develop and maintain systems within Linux-based dedicated server environments
- Configure and manage Apache and/or Nginx
- Manage hosting environments using cPanel and WHM
- Participate in and oversee deployment and release processes
- Use Git for source control, collaboration, and code reviews
- Engage directly with stakeholders to gather requirements and explain technical solutions
- Ensure applications are secure, stable, and scalable
- Provide technical guidance and support to other developers when required
- Support and maintain live production systems
Required Skills & Experience
- Senior-level commercial experience with PHP
- Strong hands-on experience with Laravel
- Proven experience with MySQL and MongoDB
- Solid understanding of RESTful API development
- Good knowledge of Linux hosting environments
- Experience working with Apache and/or Nginx
- Hands-on experience with dedicated servers
- Experience using cPanel and WHM
- Strong understanding of deployment and release processes
- Proficient with Git
- Comfortable working in a client-facing capacity
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Able to work independently in a fully remote environment
- Good knowledge of security best practices in hosted environments
