Mechanical Assembly Engineer

We are currently looking for a Mechanical Assembly Engineer / Fitter to support an established engineering business on a flexible, ad hoc basis. The role will involve machine builds, installation, commissioning support and on-site repairs across a range of bespoke and special-purpose machinery.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical assembly and machine builds
Installation and commissioning of machinery
Supporting machine finishing and modifications
On-site fault finding, repairs and troubleshooting
Working with mechanical components including motors, pneumatics, drives and associated equipment
Identifying mechanical failures and assisting with diagnosis
Reading engineering drawings and assembling machinery to specification
Supporting customer projects both locally and further afield
Requirements
Previous experience in mechanical assembly, machine building or mechanical fitting
Ideally experienced with bespoke or special-purpose machinery
Installation or commissioning experience preferred
Good understanding of how industrial machinery operates
Able to identify mechanical components and understand their function
Comfortable with fault finding and on-site repairs
Able to work independently and support customers directly
Flexible availability for short-notice, ad hoc assignments
This is a zero-hours contract, providing flexibility to take on additional engineering work without a fixed weekly commitment. Assignments may range from short-term repairs and machine finishing through to longer machine build and installation projects.
